Advisory Council Member
John Laughlin recently retired from Wells Fargo Securities, where he served as a Vice Chairman in its investment banking division. Prior to his role as Vice Chairman, John was Global Head of the Mergers and Acquisitions group and served on the Operating Committee of the investment bank. During his eight year tenure as group head, M&A revenues for the firm grew five-fold and the group experienced meaningful franchise development across the spectrum of client sectors.
As a practitioner, John advised clients on transactions across industries, and previously headed the firm’s M&A practices for the defense and aerospace, technology, and financial services sectors. He also served as chairman of the bank’s commitment and fairness opinion committees. Prior to joining the firm in 1999, John held roles at both Bank of America and J. P. Morgan.
Since retiring from finance, John advises leaders of emerging businesses and serves on the advisory boards of several commercial and non-profit organizations.
John received his BA in Economics from Davidson College, where he was student body president and currently serves as Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees. He earned his MBA from Harvard Business School.
John and his wife Gail reside in Charlotte and have three daughters.
